Mentioned
How it works

How AI visibility
tracking works.

AI visibility tracking tells you whether AI assistants name your brand when people ask them buying questions, and whether they link back to your site. Mentioned watches the questions your customers actually ask, records what ChatGPT, AI Mode and AI Overviews answer, and turns those answers into four numbers you can follow over time: AI share of voice, mention rate, brand health score and citation score. You can see which competitors get recommended instead of you, which pages get cited, and what to change next. It is rank tracking moved to the place people now ask their questions, where the answers change constantly.

The workflow

What you get, step by step.

  1. You see the questions you're being judged on

You give us your brand, your competitors and the questions your customers ask before they buy. Those become your tracked list, and you can add or retire questions whenever your market moves.

  2. You see the actual answers, not a summary

For each tracked question you get the answer the engine gave: who it named, in what order, how it described them, and which sources it linked to. You can read the whole thing rather than a score standing in for it.

  3. You see exactly where competitors beat you

Every question shows the brands recommended alongside or instead of you, engine by engine. Ranked first in one engine and missing entirely from another is a normal result, and now you can see it rather than guess at it.

  4. You get a prioritised list of things to fix

Mentioned audits your site against how AI engines read and reuse pages, then gives you an ordered list of changes worth making. Specific pages, specific problems, not generic SEO advice.

  5. You see whether the fix worked

Every result is timestamped, so you can point at a change you made and watch what happened to your four metrics afterwards. That feedback loop is the part spot-checking an engine yourself can never give you.

The numbers

What we measure.

Four numbers, tracked per engine and over time. Each one answers a different question, and each one points at different work.

AI share of voice

How much of the conversation you own. Across your tracked questions, this compares how often you are named against the other brands competing for the same answers. High means that when an engine answers your customer’s question, you are one of the brands it reaches for.

If it’s low

You are being crowded out rather than ignored. Open the questions where a competitor is named and you are not, and work out what those brands have that you don’t. Usually it is a comparison page, public pricing, reviews on the sites engines lean on, or a place on the third-party lists that keep getting quoted back.

Mention rate

How often you turn up at all. Of the questions you track, this is the share where your brand appears anywhere in the answer. Share of voice tells you how much room you take up; mention rate tells you whether you are in the room.

If it’s low

The engines usually don’t have enough clear, current, plainly written information connecting your brand to that topic. Publish pages that answer the question directly rather than circling it, put your key facts in text rather than inside images or PDFs, and get onto the sources those answers already draw from.

Brand health score

One read on how you are doing overall, pulling together how often you show up, where you place, how you are described and whether you are cited. It’s the number for the weekly report and the trend line you show a board.

If it’s low

Don’t chase the score itself. Open the parts it is built from, find the weakest one, and fix that. A brand with a strong mention rate and no citations needs completely different work from a brand nobody names at all, and the headline number can’t tell you which one you are.

Citation score

How often an engine backs up an answer with a link to your site. This is the metric closest to traffic: a mention builds familiarity, a citation is a click.

If it’s low but your mention rate is high

The engines know who you are but are sending the visit to somebody else’s page. Own the page that deserves the link, with original, checkable material the answer needs. Real numbers, your own pricing, your methodology, first-hand answers. Restating what everyone else already published gets you mentioned; it doesn’t get you cited.

The distinction that matters

Being mentioned is not
the same as being cited.

A mention

The engine says your name.

You appear in the answer. Someone reads that you exist, alongside whoever else got named. It shapes what they think of you before they ever reach your site, and it is worth having.

A citation

The engine links to your page.

You are the source the answer leans on, with a link a reader can follow. That link is the only one of the two that can put a person on your site.

Track only one and you hide half the problem. A brand with strong mentions and no citations is handing the visit to whoever published the page the engine trusted, and it will keep happening until that brand owns a page worth linking to.

Where your data lives.

In Australia. Mentioned is built here and hosted here: we run in the AWS Sydney region, and data residency, processing and backups all stay in-country. We operate in line with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles.

Most tools in this category are hosted in the United States or the EU. If your procurement team has ever asked where the data sits, this is the answer they want, and you only have to give it once.

Common questions

Common questions.

What is AI visibility tracking?

It is the practice of measuring whether AI assistants mention and link to your brand when people ask them questions about your category. Instead of checking where you rank on a page of blue links, you check what the answer itself says: which brands got named, in what order, how each was described, and which sites were cited as the source.

Which AI engines does Mentioned track?

Live today: ChatGPT, AI Mode and AI Overviews. Claude, Perplexity, Copilot and DeepSeek are on the immediate roadmap. We add engines as they mature rather than announcing them early, so the list you see here is the list you can actually track.

Is AI visibility the same as SEO?

It overlaps, but it isn’t the same job. SEO is about placing a link on a results page. AI visibility is about being the brand the answer names, and being the source the answer cites. Plenty of sites that rank well are never mentioned, and plenty of brands that get mentioned constantly never get the click. You need to see both.

What’s the difference between a mention and a citation?

A mention is the engine saying your name. A citation is the engine linking to your site as the source. A mention shapes what someone thinks of you; only a citation can send them to you. Tracking one and not the other hides half the problem. Brands with strong mentions and no citations are handing the visit to whoever published the page the engine trusted.

How long until I see a change?

Your first results appear as soon as your questions are set up, so you know your starting position straight away. Moving the numbers is slower: it depends on how visible you are now, how competitive your category is, and how quickly you act on the fixes. Judge it on the trend rather than a single reading. AI answers vary between runs, which is exactly why tracking beats spot-checking.

Can I track my competitors as well as my own brand?

Yes, and it’s the point. Every tracked question shows the other brands that appeared in the same answer, so you can see who is being recommended instead of you and on which questions. A competitor who owns one question and is invisible on the rest is a very different problem from one who beats you everywhere.

Where is my data stored?

In Australia. Mentioned hosts in the AWS Sydney region, and data residency, processing and backups stay in-country. We operate in line with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles, so procurement can ask once and move on.
